Down Syndrome with Unbalanced Complete Atrioventricular Septal Defect and Truncus Arteriosus
Truncus arteriosus (TA) is a rare cardiac anomaly constituting less than 1% of all congenital heart defects. The association of complete atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) and truncus arteriosus is uncommon. The management of this uncommon combination of lesions has not been well characterized and there is limited surgical options for treatment of these patients. We present our case report o...

Truncus arteriosus (TA) is a rare cardiac anomaly constituting less than 1% of all congenital heart defects. Its association with complete atrioventricular septal defect (AVSD) is extremely unusual and only 12 cases diagnosed postnatally or postmortem have been reported so far. We describe the first case of truncus arteriosus with AVSD to be diagnosed prenatally by fetal echocardiography.
متن کاملBiventricular repair in unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect.
We present the case of a 2.5 year-old child with unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect due to a small left ventricle (LV) (mitral annulus of 10mm and a 0.4 ratio in relation to the tricuspid annulus, LVDD: 17 mm, LV Vd2: 15 ml/m(2) and LV/RV long-axis ratio of 0.71); he had a favorable outcome after biventricular surgical repair. Normal LV development was observed three months after the ope...
متن کاملWilliams syndrome associated with complete atrioventricular septal defect.
Williams syndrome is a genetic disorder associated with characteristic facies, supravalvar aortic stenosis, peripheral pulmonary stenosis, mental retardation, hypertension, premature aging of skin, and congenital cardiac defects. Many cardiac defects such as bicuspid aortic valve, mitral valve regurgitation, coarctation of the aorta, and ventricular or atrial septal defects are linked to the sy...
متن کاملUnbalanced atrioventricular septal defect: definition and decision making.
Unbalanced atrioventricular septal defect is an uncommon lesion with widely varying anatomic manifestations. When unbalance is severe, diagnosis and treatment is straightforward, directed toward single-ventricle palliation. Milder forms, however, pose a challenge to current diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The transition from anatomies that are capable of sustaining biventricular physiolo...
